Treat asylum seekers fairly and humanely

TONY Abbott’s visit to PNG was a daylight deprivation of liberty for the asylum seekers in Manus.
What significant bilateral talks was his visit about apart from legitimising the refugees’ permanent resettlement talks here.
Why can’t the two prime ministers allow or give the refugees the opportunity to speak for themselves and on their future prospects?
The most paramount human rights issue is that these are people who have been deprived of social freedom and have been victims in their country.
That was why they fled from their homeland and sought refuge in Australia and not PNG.
My question to the two prime ministers is, how would you react to this situation if one of your own relative was amongst the asylum seekers?
The two prime ministers must be more humane in their approach than the title they wear over their heads.
Why settle them in circumstances against their wishes?
They fled from human atrocities, bondage and social deprivation.
And they wish to be free because Australia has a foreign policy on refugees and asylum seekers.
PNG has no such policy so why are Abbott and Peter O’Neill doing everything under the sun to mistreat these people?
