Tribal fighting becoming an industry, says Nali

PARLIAMENT has been told that tribal fighting in the country is becoming an industry of its own, with people making money and businesses out of it.
Works Minister and Mendi open MP Michael Nali said that when lending his support to the Firearms Bill 2018 that was passed by an absolute majority on Tuesday.
He said gunmen were hired from other places around the country to come and help a clan or a tribe that is going through a tribal fight, to fight for them in exchange for money, pigs, women and other things.
“We talk about tribal fights but tribal fighting is an industry of its own and this is a reality,” Nali said.
“Gunmen are hired from elsewhere and they are fighting for a price.”
He said the amendment to the Firearms Bill 2018 to increase penalties for people in possession of illegal firearms and ammunitions was a step forward and in the right direction and stressed the need for a complete ban on guns in PNG in the long term.
