Fr Benedict Hiss, 82, died at the Buka Hospital last week from chronic prostate complications.
Bishop of Bougainville, Bernard Unabali during the requiem mass said Fr Benedict’s legacy would be remembered by his colleagues and the communities he worked in during his 50 years of vocation.
Some of his achievements included being the first National Rector at the Holy Spirit Seminary in Port Moresby, selected as chaplain for PNGDF Armed Forces during the Vanuatu Political Crisis in 1980, chaplain with the 1st Pacific Islands Regiment (1PIR) Battalion at the Taurama Barracks in late 1980s.
