A TRUCK ferrying lamb flaps and store goods was looted after it overturned at the Kenangi section of the Highlands Highway on Tuesday.

Locals cut open the metal container containing cartons of lamb flaps and took them away. Some later sold the cartons for K50 each but later increased this to K120 on Wednesday.

Shops in town normally sell a carton of lamb flaps for K250.

The container contained buckets and other items for a shop in Mt Hagen, which were later sold by locals at a cheaper price.

Watabung-based police officer Robert Wauwe said the trailer of the truck slid off the road first, forcing the truck to overturn.

“The truck was travelling at speed while negotiating a corner and over-turned,” he said.

He said the accident occurred around noon on Tuesday. The driver was a local from nearby Yondumo village between Watabung and Chuave district in Simbu.

He and his crew suffered minor injuries.

Wauwe said the truck was owned and operated by Kutubu Transport.
