TRUKAI Industries Limited once again came to the aid of Team Papua New Guinea with a donation of 200kg of Trukai Medium-Grain Rice.
Trukai chief executive Alan Preston said the company had been a great partner of Team PNG and the PNG Olympic Committee for the past 23 years.
He said the company was happy to support Team PNG for this month’s Pacific Mini Games and the July 28-Aug 8 Commonwealth Games.
Chef de mission to the Pacific Mini Games, Kila Dick conveyed Team PNG’s gratitude to Trukai for its continued support.
“Trukai has been the choice of rice, trusted by generations when growing up,” he said.
“So thank you Trukai for the wonderful support to Team PNG.
“Your support will go a long way in ensuring our athletes are well-nourished during the Games and perform to the best in their sports.”
Trukai is also a sponsor of Olympic weightlifting pair Dika Toua and Morea Baru, who have just returned to PNG after undergoing high-performance training in Melbourne.
Team PNG will travel on a chartered fight to Saipan, Northern Marianas. Secretary-general Auvita Rapilla thanked Trukai for the donation which would go towards assisting her PNG Olympic Committee with food rations for Team PNG during both Games.
“PNGOC is grateful for such a donation because it eases our burden as a non-government and not-for-profit organisation that is doing it tough, having to fundraise to send Team PNG to two Games this year,” she said.
The first Team PNG contingent will leave for the Pacific Mini Games on Sunday.
The team to the Birmingham Commonwealth Games will leave on July 19.
