TRUKAI Industries Limited yesterday continued their commitment to Team Papua New Guinea’s Olympic journey with a K250,000 backing following the sale of Trukai Fun Run T-shirts this year.
Trukai Industries Limited chief executive Alan Preston said the company was pleased to support Team PNG for the Tokyo Olympics despite the challenging times due to Covid-19.
Preston said this was to ensure that the country was represented in the global showpiece event, which Japan would stage from July 23 to Aug 8.
“It has been a very challenging time for all of us,” he said. “But despite that, we are pleased to be able to generate K250,000 from the sale of Fun Run T-shirts to support Team PNG.
“We are one of the biggest supporters of Team PNG, having supported them through the Trukai Fun Run for the past 22 years since 1999.
“With support from the Trukai Fun Run, Team PNG has been able to attend five Commonwealth Games, five Pacific Mini Games, five Pacific Games and this year’s Tokyo Games will make it its seventh Olympic Games.
“The Olympic dream is the aspiration of many of our elite athletes and we are happy that we can be able to make this dream come true for them.
“We wish the team all the best in the Games and we are will be cheering them on from home.”
Papua New Guinea Olympic Committee (PNGOC) president Sir John Dawanincura acknowledged Trukai’s sponsorship during these challenging times.
“This support enables our athletes to realise their Olympic dreams,” he said.
Preston said Trukai had been a great partner of the Olympic committee.
“We are extremely fortunate and grateful to have them as a part of our family of corporate sponsors over the years,” he said.
