TSC: 9,000 on the line
The National, Tuesday 1st of April, 2014
ABOUT 9,000 teachers will be struck off the payroll from the next pay if they fail to resume duties.
Teaching Service Commission chairman Baran Sori said this when providing an update on teachers’ pay yesterday.
He said 9,000 was last week’s figure which could change if teachers resumed duties. “These 9000 teachers would be (struck) off the payroll when auto-pay suspension commences on pay eight (next pay),” he said.
He said the auto-pay suspension was like a cleaning exercise used by the payroll department to identify teachers who had not resumed duty, retired, passed away or moved to another province.
“Auto-pay suspension is good because it cleans the payroll system and reconciles a teacher’s position,” he said.
He said pay slips were complicated for teachers because they were issued by the Finance Department.
He said slips collected at the Education Department were free of charge but other provinces already using the pay system (ALESCO)could collect their pay slips at the respective provincial authorities.
He said some teachers were asked to pay for their pay slips to cover the cost of printing them.
