THE Autonomous Region of Bougainville Rugby Union sevens squad are on schedule for the Kokopo PNG Games.
Coach Peter Tsiamalili Jr announced a strong squad last week that includes two sevens internationals Hubert Tseraha and Chris Kakah, and exciting new find from the islands Tauri Moore.
The squad were picked and established after the Independence Sevens tournament run by Bougainville Rugby Union, with an average of 23 years across the board.
“I’m happy with the squad and this is what we will go with before we travel,” Tsiamalili said.
“The PNG Games is the pinnacle for any grassroots sportsman or woman. For Bougainville rugby, this is a great opportunity for us to compete against all 22 provinces in the sport, something that you don’t get to do on the regular sevens circuits.
“The goal is for gold, but our focus is to do better than we did in the last games in Port Moresby, a better placing.”
The squad received a K10,000 sponsorship from long-term Bougainville rugby sponsor Bougainville Rugby Consults for part of their levies, and playing gears.
Tsiamalili thanked the managing director Bob Willis for the ongoing support. He also acknowledged the support of Beachside Brasserie, Tuboin Ltd, Reasons Bar & Grill, Naiaga Trading, Wedlyn Bus Services, Eagle Hardware and Axxelarate ‘Kooga’ Sports Marketing.
The AROB team: Jimmy Pahia, Tsitom Semoso, Charlie Keriaka, Nathan Baramun, Tseraha, Brethren Junior Kenu, Duncan Fama, Kakah, Moore, Eric Kaiat, Virgil Kilkil Baraho, Ben Oakley, Clive Tsigo, and Joey Masiu. Kelly Havara is assistant coach and Gideon Tongo manager.
