THE Australian government has been commended for its strategic advisory role in supporting the East New Britain provincial administration to implement development policies and programmes.
Provincial administrator Akuila Tubal said there had been a significant increase in the implementation of projects and programmes since 2004, which he attributed to the support and assistance of the Australian government.
He said this during a farewell dinner for Australian adviser Paul Bridgeman, who had been working with the ENB administration on the provincial performance improvement initiative (PPII) for the past three years.
Tubal said that since the inauguration of the sub-national strategy facilitated through the Department of Provincial and Local Level Government Affairs with the support by the Australian government, ENB had greatly benefited from the programme.
He added that ENB had full taken advantage of the programme to maintain its reputation as one the model province in the country.
“ENB has challenges to overcome in the coming years to support and uphold PPII in the province, including the challenge of implementation of the K186 million budget for this year,” he said.
Tubal commended Bridgeman for his involvement and support in the implementation of projects.
