CRICKET Papua New Guinea’s ChildFund project will wind down it’s three-month programme with a friendly between Tubusereia (Team Two) and Pari (Team Four) on Friday.
Project manager Margaret Sibona said the match will see Team Two and Team Four play against each other after completing nine sessions on social issues which CPNG is carrying out in communities and schools in Port Moresby and Central.
“We have had sessions one to nine and it’s all about gender equality, how to solve domestics conflicts and how to get unemployed youths in the community to be productive,” she said.
“We have 24 facilitators shared among five teams.
“Teams one, three and five have been allocated schools in Port Moresby.
“Team Three were allocated Waigani Primary School.
“Team Five were given June Valley Primary while Team One went to the only secondary school on our roster — Badihagwa.”
Sibona said the two teams in Pari and Tubusereia had completed their sessions and were carrying out evaluations.
She said cricket’s involvement in the programme had been a huge contributing factor to how youths and children developed an attitude of working together as a team and it also encouraged healthy lifestyles.
“Cricket is a sport where you use your muscles, your mind is working, you are playing with teammates, so that goes in line with the sessions,” Sibona said.
Facilitator Aego Willie said the programme had a positive impact on youths.
“There were instances were one or two youths came up to me, saying how grateful they were for the session,” he said.
Sibona acknowledged the support of the International Cricket Council and CPNG.
