TUITION fee free education is seeing overcrowding in most schools in the country.

Schools in the National Capital District are no exception and for Ward Strip Demonstration, the problem of overcrowding is expected to be solved with  funding support for two double classrooms.

This was welcoming news for the school when teachers and students gathered last Thursday to witness the handing over of their new school bus by Moresby North-East MP Labi Amaiu.

Amiau said he wanted to help fund long-term projects.

He spent about K500,000 in the two double classrooms and the 15-seater bus.

Acting chairman of the school committee Silvenus Vaso said Ward Strip Demonstration was one of the biggest schools in the city and there was obvious overcrowding in  classrooms.

Vaso said the ratio of teacher-students was about 1-80 – quite high and difficult to maintain.

“Therefore, the donation from the North-East MP is very timely because it will help ease the burden of overcrowding in the classrooms,” Vaso said.

“Secondly, the donation of the bus can also go a long way in terms of helping with educational activities for the students and staff.

“The contribution of two double classrooms – we just want to thank God for Amaiu. Ward Strip is continuing to expand, this time we are going to start building upwards.

“I strongly believe that in the long run, we will have the problem of overcrowding eased.”

The school gave two pigs to Labi Amaiu as an appreciation for his continuous support to the school since he become MP.
