WAGHI Tumbe say they are not the underdogs as they prepare to face 2020 runners-up Tigers in round two of the Digicel at the Lae Rugby League Ground on Sunday (3pm kick-off).Tumbe chairman Paul Tumun told The National yesterday that his side’s 32-20 round-one win over reigning minor premiers Rabaul Gurias had given them confidence heading into their second match.
“We shouldn’t be seen as underdogs going into this match against the Tigers,” he said.“Our boys surprised a lot of fans with their performance last week against the Gurias.“We have prepared well for Tigers.“The camp looks to be positive and the players are focused on putting in another strong performance.“It’s the Tigers’ home ground so they’ll be looking to use that to their advantage.
“But we are a confident ourselves and are looking forward to the challenge.” Tumun said the former SP Hunter and new coach Baundo Aba would maintain the same line-up from last week.“Baundo is only new in coaching but I think he did well in preparing the team and getting them to play well last week,” he said.
