Turubu LLG signs deal with WaterAID Australia
The National, Thursday 23rd Febuary 2012
A LOCAL level government president has signed an MoU with WaterAID Australia to ensure all villages in the Turubu area, East Sepik, have clean water to use.
David Kausik commended WaterAID Australia for its technical expertise in setting up and commissioning water projects in three villages last year.
He said he was committed to working with them and would source funds for the implementation of the water and sanitation projects in all of Turubu.
Kausik thanked the European Union for funding the projects and HELP Resources as implementers of the rural water supply and sanitation programmes in four other LLGs.
He said those in rural areas often faced difficulty trying to reach water sources and with the existence of such a non-government organisation in the province, it was time the provincial government back such projects.
WaterAID Australia programme manager Jay Maheswaran said they had the technical expertise and were willing to work in partnership with communities in implementing the projects.
He hoped the provincial government would take full responsibility in sustaining them when they were implemented.
Maheswaran said people in rural areas needed to have access to good clean water for personal hygiene in order to avoid water-borne diseases.
WaterAID Australia is implementing more projects at Kombagora followed by Bararat and Japaraka villages.
