Tuvalu beauty vies for title

TAPUA Vavale Pasua will be among the beauty queens from the Pacific islands vying to be crowned Miss Pacific in Port Moresby this month.
The title is currently held by 2018 Miss PNG Leoshina Kariha. Tapua, 25, is representing Tuvalu. She loves to work with young people especially women through formal and informal education.
She sees it as a solution to “saving our home and identity”.
She is an assistant tourism officer. She is proud to have been raised by her family and her people.
“Community living developed my passion for my land, people, culture and ocean.”
She sees herself as a confident public speaker and dancer. She loves Pacific art.
She has represented Tuvalu at various international events such as the United Nations Youth Climate Change Summit in New York, and the Peace Boat Ocean and Climate Youth ambassador.
“The opportunities allowed me to promote the culture of Tuvalu and amplified our voices as the sole protectors of our future and identity.”
She plans to study law and art based on international relations at the Victoria University in New Zealand.
“The opportunity to study in New Zealand motivates me to become a successful woman who can one day contribute to my country’s development.”
She aims to complete her studies and become a diplomat for her country. She sees it as the highest representation and protection of her country’s interest and people. The pageant will be held in Port Moresby later this month.
