TWENTY-three bags of marijuana were discovered in 12 bags of vegetables from Goroka in Eastern Highlands at a local wharf by police who acted on an intelligence report.
The Fox Unit 202 members, based at the Gerehu Police Station comprising Const David Mose, Frank Sau, Michael Carson, Steven Gene, Able Jacob and Rueben Mishack, discovered the bags of marijuana weighing a total of 17.2kg and with an estimated street value of K50,000.
Each bag weighed less than 2kg with the heaviest weighing 1.5kg and the lightest 800g.
According to NCD Met Supt Perou N’dranou, the unit on Friday went to the wharf near Porebada when they spotted a taxi and proceeded to stop it when a passenger exited the vehicle and ran off leaving the driver.
The officers searched the vehicle and found one of the bags of drugs and the driver then led them to a container at the wharf where they discovered 14 more bags of marijuana in three big boxes of produce.
“In total, we found 15 bags of marijuana on Friday,” Met Supt N’dranou said.
“However, by the time we got to the container, about a third of the contents had been removed by whoever the produce belonged too.”
On Saturday, accompanied by the media, the Fox Unit returned to the wharf but was told by the operations manager that the container would be removed from the wharf and brought to the station. The container was opened in the presence of media where another eight bags were discovered inside seven bags of local produce. Met Supt N’dranou commended his men.

  • This reports is so confusing. By they time they got to the container which is not far from where they stopped the taxi the container has half empty. Police got a tip off but did not do a proper sting operation to apprehend those involved. They even left the container on the wharf until the next day. Police need more training on this type of operation.

  • This report shows that police are not smart with their work of catching criminals. We want smart people with intelligent brains to join the police force.

  • Government has to stop subsidizing the shipment of fresh produce from Lae to POM. I think this was not the first time.

  • Why didn’t police take all 15 bags and keep them in police station and third of the contents had been removed by whoever the produce belonged too.
Why operation manager wants to take the container down to police station instead of only allowing them to take the bags of drugs.
Poor police men had miserably failed their job by leaving drugs and went away. Why they reported if they failed.
Believed officers took bribery and also investigate operation manager, he also involved in bribery.
