TWO suspects wanted for a string of armed robberies in East New Britain were captured by police in a dawn raid on Sunday.
Acting provincial police commander Senior Inspector Joseph Tabali said the two suspects were apprehended at Ulaveo, outside Kokopo town.
Tabali said one of them was armed with a shotgun and tried to escape from police and was shot on the left leg. He was under observation at Nonga General Hospital and was expected to be charged.
Tabali said the whereabouts of the two suspects was revealed when foot patrol members from the Kokopo police station arrested two others at Tabuna ward in Bitapaka local level government and interrogated them.
The arrest follows robberies at Fafen Supermarket, Zero Mobile Shop, robbery of a PMV bus, holdup of two expatriates at the Rapopo Plantation Resort and the TokDidiman Store.
Tabali has appealed to the people in the community to cooperate with police.
He said they should not
hesitate to assist police with information.
