TWO suspects arrested at Voco Point in Lae with more than K30,000 in cash on one of them on April 28 have been released because police could not slap a charge on them, Lae metro commander Chief Supt Chris Kunyanban says.
The money would be returned to them, he said.
He said suspects could not be held for long in police custody without a charge.
“Once they are arrested, police will have to establish the right charges to be pressed on them and if there is no concrete evidence to substantiate their arrests, then they have to be released from custody,” he said.
However, Kunyanban said if evidence was found against them for some wrongdoing, they would be rearrested.
