POLICE have arrested six men implicated in two separate deaths after assaults at Open Bay in East New Britain.

Four were arrested for the first death and two for the second.

ENB provincial police commander Supt Anthony Wagambie said the men were arrested on Monday.

He said four men from Pomio would be questioned over the death of a man from East Sepik.

Two East Sepik men will be questioned over the death of a man in Pomio.

Wagamibie said formal charges would be laid before they would be  taken to the Kokopo committal court.

The two dead men were employees of Open Bay Timbers in East New Britain. They died following a fight sparked by an extra-marital affair.

The fight began when relatives of a woman accused Nawoks Gabriel, 23, from Maprik, East Sepik, of having an affair with her and assaulted him. He  died on the way to hospital.

Wagambie said Gabriel’s relatives, in retaliation, went after one of the men involved in assaulting Gabriel and attacked him with knives. The man,  Patrick Alois, from Point Takis village in Lassul, Baining, later died.
