ELECTION officials in Yangoru-Saussia in East Sepik made two declarations after nominations closed on June 14.

They were for two ward members in the Numbo and Sausso local level governments.

Councillors Daniel Matu, of Kambaraka Kowiru ward 16 in the Sausso LLG, and Abraham Panga, of Nangumarum ward 15 in the Numbo LLG, were declared unopposed.

Panga told The Natioinal the declaration indicated  the people’s support for his leadership.

“I am very happy because more than 600 eligible voters have faith and trust in me,” he said.

“This will be my second term as ward member.”

Panga said it was vital that he continued in his role because of incomplete projects such as the village water supply and a health clinic.

Assistant returning officer Tony Sinkinapi said a total of 105 council candidates and 25 for the president’s seat were contesting in his Numbo LLG area.

He said the only female candidate, Merolyn Mandom, was standing for president.
