Two die in road accident

TWO people were killed and two others seriously injured in a collision between a 10-seater Land Cruiser and an oil tanker on the Markham section of the Highlands Highway on Saturday.
One of the two injured in the pre-44th Independence anniversary weekend was Gama Local Level Government president David Bebang.
In another road accident on Aug 31, four people died and two others are fighting for their lives in Lae’s Angau Memorial Hospital.
The accident involved a white single-cabin Ford Ranger and a vehicle carrying construction materials and occurred on the Highlands Highway between 3pm and 4pm near the Rumion junction, Markham Valley.
According to provincial police commander Alex N’Drasal, the Ford Ranger was driven by Jimmy Kromsi, 35, who was transporting 12 two-metre iron posts.
The other vehicle, a truck carrying house building materials, was occupied by Frank Lazarus and his wife Margret Frank Alex, 24.
Other passengers in the vehicle were George Koi, Jebra Frank, four (daughter of Frank and Margret Lazarus) and Joel Witdlon from Southern Highlands.
The accident occurred after the Nowa Primary School.
Kromsi tried to overtake the container truck and lost control of the steering and ran into a drain.
All the passengers and building materials were flung out of the vehicle which stopped near a pig farm. Police revealed that George Koi and the four-year-old girl died on the spot.
Kromsi died on arrival at Angau Hospital, while Margret Alex passed away on Sept 1.
Lazarus and Witdlon are still warded with serious injuries.
