POLICE in Bougainville have arrested two of North Bougainville’s most notorious drug growers in Tinputz district, last Thursday.
One of the suspects had been on the run after he hacked his wife with a bush knife earlier in the year.
The two suspects are from Pokapa village in the Tinputz area of North Bougainville, and have been camping out in the jungle for the past several months.
Police in Buka decided to act after hearing reports coming from community leaders of Pasunban village, of the two men’s activities in the area which included three attempted rapes, stealing from food gardens and the cultivating of marijuana.
Pasunban leaders reported that they were leaving under threat because the two suspects were armed with a shotgun with live ammunition and bush knives.
Acting commissioner for Bougainville police, Huitono Tohua, yesterday commended the work done by the North Bougainville police for capturing the two and said the police needed the support of all good law abiding citizens.
Meanwhile, North Bougainville police commander, Cletus Tsien stated over the weekend that “Operation Tonsu Hois Moun” was progressing very well.
The operation was launched earlier this month, aimed at reducing crime around Bougainville, especially during the festive period.
