TWO empty flats at the back of the Mineral Resources Authority (MRA) office in Port Moresby caught fire last night.
PNG Fire Service Chief Bill Roo told The National that the fire was contained before it reached the Mineral Resources Authority office.
“We received calls from concerned citizens and responded immediately,” he said.
“Three fire trucks from Town, Boroko and Waigani attended to the fire and were able to contain it before it reached the Mineral Resources Authority office.”
Roo said it was fortunate that no one lived in the flats.
The fire started at about 7.30pm.
He also called on the public to take precautions to protect their homes from fire.
The St John Ambulance was also at the scene but no one was hurt or injured.
Pictures of the fire were posted on social media sites.
