TWO policemen in East Sepik were charged last Friday with stealing 15 cartons of beer and K180 from a retailer at Turubu on the east coast of Wewak.
Wewak police station commander Charles Parinjo said the two men were suspended from duties for 21 days and would appear before the Wewak district court this week.
It is alleged that the complainant’s attempt to see police to lodge an official complaint since last year was denied until she sought help from the public solicitor’s office.
Chief Insp Parinjo, who learnt of the incident from the public solicitor’s office, acted on the information and ordered the arrest of the officers last Friday.
Another auxiliary policeman in Wewak was arrested and charged with assaulting a prisoner in town.
Another faces charges relating to the assault and wilful damage to a company’s property.
Parinjo said he had nothing to conceal as all cases were before the court, which would decide their fate.
He issued a stern warning to his men to work within the law and not to abuse their authority.
