TWO fire trucks and a vehicle for the Lae Fire Service administration have no fuel to operate, according Superintendent Bal Kenna.
The vehicles had been grounded for the past two weeks, unable to be used for any fire emergency, safety and prevention, in-house training and awareness programmes for companies and government agencies.
Kenna said preparedness in fire safety and emergency was crucial because they were not expected.
“It is sad to say though. The two fire trucks and the ute have empty tanks leaving us handicapped and immobile,” Kenna said.
“Unfortunately, no fire was experienced in last two weeks. But we need fuel to be on standby for emergencies that occur anytime.”
Kenna said the fuel requisition had been submitted to the headquarters in Port Moresby and forwarded to the Department of Finance for Niugini Oil Company to refuel the trucks.
This will be the third week in which the trucks will be without fuel. “I am assuring companies, government agencies and public to be careful when using electrical appliances at workplaces and home,” Kenna said.
Kenna said the fire services catered for company properties, government assets and public safety.
