TWO men in West New Britain have been sentenced

to six years in prison each, reduced by half, for attempted murder.

In a separate case another man was jailed for six years for causing grievous bodily harm after attacking his boss with a kitchen knife after being sacked.

The National Court heard that on July 1, 2011 Bobby Bruce Gela and Lesley Lalu Vanagu from Gavaiva ward attempted to kill fellow villager Aloisi Koviro.

Koviro was attacked and left to die from injuries.

The court heard the offenders followed the victim  and attacked when he went into the bushes.

The two men had suspected him of trying to rape a female relative of theirs, the court heard.

“You took the law into your own hands when you attacked him. This type of attitude must stop,”  Judge Panuel Mogish told the men when sentencing them to six years of hard labour, reduced to three years each.

The court also sentenced another man to six years in prison after he was found guilty of causing grievous bodily harm after attacking his boss in 2005.

The man, 31, had been terminated from employment and attacked one of the managers.
