ARRESTS have been made after two murders and a third one is yet to be investigated in the Pomio district of East New Britain.
Provincial police commander Supt Anthony Wagambie confirmed this in Kokopo yesterday.
One murder happened at the Iwai village in East Pomio and two suspects were arrested and charged with willful murder.
The suspects Ludwick Knikie, 21, and of Savoul village, Pomio, and Fidelis Ramong, 30, and of Mankane village, Pomio, were transferred to Kokopo and charged.
Police reports said the victim went to a nearby creek to wash after returning from his garden when he was attacked and murdered.
The victim’s arms and legs were chopped off and his body carried down to the beach and sunk in the sea in October last year.
Four suspects have been charged with the willful murder of a fisherman.
The suspects Michael Tali, 46, Leo Lote, 43, and Greg Kove, 36, all from Uvol village in Pomio and Ambros Han, of Nissan Island, in the Autonomous Region of Bougainville, are in custody.
Wagambie said due to logistical constraints and bad weather at that time, police were not able to attend to them.
Meanwhile, another murder was reported at Marmar ward in Central Pomio.
Wagambie said full reports from there were expected although four known suspects approached a man person at his house and severely assaulted him on Feb 2.
The victim died two days later from the injuries sustained in the assault.
Wagambie said arrangements were being made for police to attend the scene.
