THE Indonesian Agriculture Ministry has held another international training for agricultural workers from Papua New Guinea, Timor-Leste and Sudan.

The activity was staged on May 13-18 in Bekasi, West Java, Indonesia.

Two participants from Papua New Guinea, Danny Dai and David B. Tenakanai, departed Port Moresby for Jakarta via Singapore on May 11.

Both Dai and Tenakanai work as quarantine officers with the National Agriculture and Inspection Authority of PNG.

The theme of the training is the “Development of Phytosanitary Treatment According to the IPPC standard”.

According to the PNG Indonesian Embassy education attaché Didik Wisnu Widjajanto, the programme is in line with the New Asian-African Strategic Partnership (NAASP), the spirit of South-South Cooperation (SSC) and the global commitment to the millennium term development goals.

It is also in line with the implementation of the Indonesian government’s commitment to assist Papua New Guinea in agriculture techniques.

Commitments for such activities were submitted during the state visit of President of Indonesia Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono to PNG in March 2010.
