TWO officers of a district in Morobe are wanted by police in relation to an alleged fraud of K2 million meant for a market facility development in the district.
Morobe acting police commander Chief Insp John Daviaga yesterday confirmed that another two officers were arrested and charged with misappropriation and abuse of office.
He said the other two were still at large and police would soon arrest and charge them.
“We have arrested two of the four and they are now in police custody,”Chief Insp Daviaga said.
“They will appear in court (today).”
Chief Insp Daviaga said the arrests came after a police investigation revealed that a funding of K2 million meant for a major market development in the district was misappropriated.
The funding was made available by the provincial and local level government affairs for the construction of a new market.
He said: “This is one of the first fraud cases that involved officers in the district”.
Chief Insp Daviaga said it was very sad to see that happening at a time when Papua New Guinea was facing a downfall in the economy.
“Such funds have to be utilised properly as appropriated,” he said.
