TWO policemen have been detained in Port Moresby after they were found in a house with a robbery suspect in what police believe to be part of a criminal syndicate involving police.
“The policemen were with the suspect who was injured during a shootout with other police officers after robbing a shop at Moreguina in Abau, Central, last Saturday,” National Capital District Met Supt Perou N’dranou said.
“We impounded a vehicle allegedly used to transport cocaine and confiscated two firearms while investigating the robbery at the shop.
“We now suspect that policemen were involved in robbing the shop at Moreguina.”
Supt N’dranou said they believed that they stumbled into a criminal syndicate that included policemen.
“Policemen from the policing the police team were tipped off about the whereabouts of the injured suspect and went to a house at Badili yesterday,” he said.
“When they arrived they saw two policemen at that house.
“We believe that they brought medicines to treat the injured suspect in that house.
“That suspect who sustained injuries during a shootout on Oct 10 with other police officers escaped and was hiding in the house and receiving medical treatment.
“That suspect was the one who had shot and injured three police officers in Abau during the shootout.
“We brought that suspect and the two policemen and detained them at the Gordon police station.
“We will be questioning the policemen for their presence with the suspect.
“One of the policemen was at large since June for allegedly involved in extortion.
“So he will be charged for extortion.”
Supt N’dranou said the suspect revealed details of two hidden firearms at Kupiano during interrogation. He said police went to Kupiano, confiscated the two guns and detained a suspect in possession of the firearms and took him to the Gordon police station.
Supt N’dranou said he would be charged with possession of firearms without licence.
Supt N’dranou said when investigating the robbery at Kupiano, police impounded a vehicle after been tipped off that it was used to transport cocaine.
“We cannot hide the fact that policemen are involved with criminals. We have already arrested and charged a policeman for allegedly discharging firearms at a senior police officer’s house at Gerehu police barracks on Sept 6.

  • We can trust them the police offices but its the Government of the day that does not provide good accommodation and allowance so that they the police officers family can stay in good homes while they do their job but if the Government is not providing good accommodations and also good allowance to them the police man and women how can you expect them to perform their duty well.. please ol marn to ya ol needim extra money to help their needs

    • Don’t shift blame. If these policemen are not happy with their condition, then simply resign and become a rascal. Don’t justify unacceptable crime of these so called policemen by shifting blame for their crimes to the government.

    • Still there is no excuse for such a behaviour for a policeman. There are otherwise to address better living conditions. Involvement in criminal activities doesn’t justify any action so those corrupt officers should be charged and thrown into jail. And dismissed from the force as well.

  • If they don’t get paid fortnightly than there is good reason to it,other wise locked them up in jail for destroying the good reputation of some other hard working officers in the country..too terminate them totally from the force..

  • How can police officers compromise with rascals? This is totally unacceptable. These two culprits should face the full force of the governing laws of this beautiful country. Laws of this nation governing the ROYAL PNG CONSTABULARY must do its part first as the detainees inside will conclude with their part when the duo get in the house man.

  • Every robbery that takes place around the country the police officers are involved. This is fact. Government should do something now to the police officers.

  • Everything else comes back to the Recruitment system. If the recruitment is been done through corruption, say for instance bribery then the police who are involved in such crimes may have gotten through police cadets through bribery, hence they act as if it’s their birth right place to be knowing that some officers at the top will cover their asses when they do wrong.
    This is the fact.

    The Good have to be strong now. The Good needs to be extra hard. The Good must set things right.
    The Bad must go. There is no other choice, but to let the Bad go now.
    Listen up Goods, you have waited for so long for the Bad to change. But it cannot. It’s time to let the Bad go now. Judiciary systems has been compromised. Jungle Justice will become imminent if the trait is continual – which can dangerously lead to civil unrest. Chaos will pop up everywhere – crisis will emerge. “Freedom” will run away, and communism will step in. So to cut short cases, arrest all the rogue cops and prison them without bail conditions. If they escape, then put them down in the ground. There is no other choice. Let’s hope for God’s understanding, that the Bad needs to be put down. Sometimes the Bad is tired and needs to be rested. Let the Good rest the Bad for good.!

    GOVERNMENT WITH LIKE MINDED POLITICIANS WHO ARE AGAINST CORRUPTIONS NEED TO GET TO THE BOTTOM OF IT AND ENSURE THESE SORT OF POLICEMEN ARE IDENTIFIED AND DO A MASSIVE HOUSE KEEPING IN THE POLICE FORCE. IT IS JUST A TIP OF THE ICE BERG.

  • actual disgrace to our country! leaders of our country need to be educated . we stepped into western society many decades ago and whats going on?? our country is rich in resources ,why not develop better education to every young citizens in our country whether they live in urbanized or rural communities? there needs to be territory products manufactured in our country in order to create more jobs for our young generation.
    There is lack of support from the government to our farmers in the whole entire country
