Two prison escapees caught
TWO escapees from Kerevat Jail were rearrested at their homes at Kereba Settlement in Kokopo on Thursday, police say.
Provincial police commander Joseph Tabali said the two, part of a group of 11 who dashed for freedom on Feb 3, were accommodated by family when police caught them after a tip-off. The two remanded prisoners captured were Paul George from Kereba in Kerevat, charged with being possession of a dangerous weapons, and Tobata Funil from Iavakaka in Rabaul, charged with armed robbery.
“I appeal to communities and family members not to harbour them in their homes because it is very dangerous when police will catch up with them,” Tabali said.
He said most of the escapees were living with family.
“They will be around here,” Tabali said.
