POLICE are questioning two men in connection with the death of an Australian tourist and the raping of his Filipino girlfriend in Western Highlands two weeks ago.

Police confirmed that the men were employees of Banz Kofi.

Purdy Robert Peter, 63, of Melbourne, Australia arrived in Mt Hagen on April 4 with his girlfriend and stayed with the owner of Banz Kofi at Kagamuga.

He was shot dead and his girlfriend was raped on the morning of Monday, April 8.

Provincial police commander Supt Martin Lakari told The National yesterday that police were questioning the two men.

Supt Lakari said the two men were allegedly part of a group of about 10 who broke into the residence of the owner of the Banz Kofi and shot Robert.

He said it would not be long before the others were arrested.

Lakari said the murder and rape of the tourists had tarnished the name of the province and he was determined to bring justice to them.

He said no valuables were removed from the house when the men left.

He said the owner of the house was in Australia during the incident.
