Two robbery suspects locked up, 3 at large

TWO suspects in an armed robbery at Stop and Shop in Rainbow, Port Moresby on April 19 have been arrested and charged by the armed robbery squad and detained in the Boroko Police Station cell.
National Capital District Met Supt Perou N’dranou said police brief alleged the two and three other men in City Pharmacy Ltd (CPL) uniform pretended to be employees and gained entry through the back of the shop and robbed the store.
He said the suspects held up guards and employees at the cashier’s office and took K137,625 and two mobile phones from employees before escaping the same way they had entered.
He said the suspects were allegedly also involved in another armed robbery where they stole a vehicle.
Supt N’dranou said with good communication from the police and the public, one of the suspects, Martin Kageni, surrendered claiming that he only helped in a hire car incident but not in any armed robbery or stealing of motor vehicles.
He said according to witnesses, the two arrested Kageni and Kawage Gene were allegedly the prime suspects in the robbery.
They were charged with armed robbery and unlawful use of motor vehicle.
