THE Japanese government has donated K583,000 to two schools for the construction of buildings and other facilities in two provinces.
The funding was made through the Japanese government’s grant assistance for grassroots human security projects scheme.
Japanese ambassador Nobuyuki Watanabe said from the amount, K300,002 was given to Morobe’s Zuebak Primary School for two classrooms, one teachers’ building, a school building, desks, chairs and blackboards.
“While the remaining K283,000 was given to Mul Primary School in Chimbu for a school building, two classrooms and one teachers’ room,” he said.
Watanabe said he became aware that both schools were in need of additional classrooms because their existing buildings were outdated and some classes were overcrowded with students.
“I hope that the grant will help improve the current problems you are facing,” he said.
“I would like to ask the recipients to make their best efforts towards implementing the projects according the agreed requirements provided in the contracts that were signed.”
Member for Markham Koni Iguan thanked the Japanese government for selecting a school in his area.
“Markham electorate has people living behind mountains and Zuebak Primary School students are some of them,” he said.
Iguan said his district had been trying to develop the school and this would help them to develop the school to the level it should be.
Mul Primary School headmaster John Miliki thanked the Japan government.
