POLICE have arrested two suspects over the killing of two men on Feb 12 in Obura-Wonenara, Eastern Highlands.
It related to the killings on Dec 29 over an alleged sorcery practice in Maropa of Yuta Uri and his son Delbert.
Yuta’s wife Yoseko was also wounded with two other women on that day.
Police said the rival factions were from Maropa.
But the other group had fled to nearby Ainora after the incident last December.
The faction at Ainora returned to Maropa, leading to a fight and killing of another two men on Feb 12.
“This is a continuous issue,” police said.
“Police intervened, warned both parties to lay down arms and find an amicable peace mediation process to restore harmony among rival groups.”
Meanwhile, Aiyura and Kainantu police monitoring a tense situation in Norikori Valley have urged the Eastern Highlands education board to appoint a “neutral” principal to take charge of the Tairora High School in Obura-Wonenara.
Police are camping at the Barabundora health centre providing security to health workers that returned to their work station last Friday.
Eastern Highlands provincial police commander Acting Supt David Seine Jr said the three killed included two students and a Salvation Army pastor.
One is a former student of Tairora who was continuing his education at a Catholic technical vocational centre in Kainantu.
The other is a grade 10 student.
