Two teachers sacked for sexually abusing minors

TWO teachers were sacked in 2017 for sexually abusing minors, Child and Family Services acting director Simon Yanis said.
“Such crimes cannot be tolerated. Such teachers must be sacked and made to face the full brunt of the law,” he said in response to media reports of teachers preying on students.
He said such crimes committed by teachers had become prevalent nationwide this year.
“The two teachers were sacked under the power mandated in the Lukautim Pikinini Act 2015. We need the cooperation of parents and the public to report such errant teachers to the police and trained Child Protection Officers based in all districts and provinces in the country,” he said.
“They can then be prosecuted. We must uphold the sanctity of the teaching profession. Such teachers had not only betrayed the trust of parents on them to educate their children, they have also failed to protect them from harm.”
Yanis also urged parents of abused children not to accept compensation of any sort.
