THE Malaysian High Commission in collaboration with the Papua New Guinea Islamic Society (PNGIS) will send two girls to study in Malaysia.
“Education in Malaysia is very high standard with low tuition fee,” Malaysia High Commissioner Mohamad Nasri Abdul Rahman said.
Rahman congratulated the girls as Malaysia was one of the high ranking education hub in Asia.
Fatima Kalu and Hafsah Umar found the scholarship opportunity through their Imam (Islam leader) in the PNGIS, who had a collaboration with the University of Sarawak and the International Islamic University of Malaysia in Malaysia.
Kalu, 20, from Chimbu, will study bachelor of accounting at the International Islamic University of Malaysia under the sponsorship of the International Islamic Institute.
Umar, 21, also from Chimbu, will study diploma in human resource at the University of Sarawak under the sponsorship of PNGIS and Fiji Muslim League.
Rahman said the girls met the entry requirements under their selected universities based on their academic grades.
The sponsors will provide travel fare, accommodation, food and allowances in the duration of their studies.
Kalu was studying law at the University Of Papua New Guinea (UPNG) last year but got excluded.
“I will give my best with this opportunity as this is my chance to correct my exclusion from UPNG,” Kalu said.
“I will miss my family because it’s going to be four years but I really want to make the best out of this opportunity.” Umar completed high school in Fiji last year.
