BOUGAINVILLE President Ishmael Toroama has announced his 13 members of cabinet, including two women, saying the appointments were made according to their calibre and experience.
Toroama said a review of his ministers’ performance would be done after 18 months.
The female ministers were Theonila Roka Matbob – member for Ioro constituency – and Yolande Geraldine Paul – member for Central Bougainville Women.
Matbob is the Minister for Education and Paul the Minister for Primary Industries and Marine Resources.
“I have appointed two female members to the cabinet to ensure there is recognition of the dynamic role that our women have in Bougainville society,” he said.
“I am confident that these two women leaders will perform exceptionally in their new roles as key ministers in this government.”
Toroama also retained four members.
“I have retained key ministers who were instrumental in the Momis-Masono government such as Raymond Masono, Thomas Pataaku, Ezekiel Massat and Robert Hamal Sawa,” he said.
“I have done this to ensure balance and more importantly, the calibre and experience of these ministers for nurturing the younger leaders we have in this House.”
Toroama said he wanted his government to help the young and upcoming population to realise their potential.
“This also applies to our young leaders,” he said.
“This cabinet has seen the appointment of some of our young elected leaders.
“I believe that by promoting our young talent in all aspects, we help to create a vibrant and energetic environment for them to be more innovative and fully grow to realise their potential.”
Toroama also reminded his cabinet of their responsibilities.
“While I have all the confidence in this new cabinet, I am also mindful that such appointments come with greater responsibilities,” he said.
“I want to remind all appointed Ministers that the role you have been accorded with will collectively contribute to Bougainville’s progressive development and aspirations.”
