AN unbeaten 50 by Naoani Vare helped the CPL Mudwomen (116/6) to a 48-run win over the BSP Black Bass (68 all out) in the fourth round of the Curtain Brothers Women’s T20 Smash at Amini Park yesterday.
The second game of the day was affected by rain, making scoring runs difficult but Vare, who claimed the player of the match award, managed to carry her bat through the Mudwomen innings; Bass’s Mari Tom took 3-12 in her four overs.
The Bass batters, however, were never allowed to settle in with Norma Ovasuru (11) the only scorer in double figures.
The Mudwomen attack saw players take two or more wickets with Essy David (2-12) and Kila Frank (3-12) starring; Lewas spearhead Ravini Oa also grabbed a two-for.
The undefeated Ela Motors Cassowaries (115/7) claimed a 12-run win over the Oil Search Foundation Mariners (103 all out).
Batting first the Cassowaries put on 115 for the loss of seven wickets off their 20 overs with Helai Nou (35) and Isabel Toua (25) scoring half their team’s total while Mariners’ Konio Oala was the best with the ball taking 2-16.
Mariners star Brenda Tau was rock solid with the bat hitting an unbeaten 47 and was well supported by Oala, who scored 40 runs, but the pair could not get their team over the line with the team bowled out for 103 runs.
The teams have a break today before the crucial fifth round of matches with the Mariners still chasing a win ahead of the finals on Sunday.
