Unfair to blame govt

Letters

I AM writing in response to a letter to The National by Richard Yasi.
With due respect, his letter seems to blame this Government for all the murders and killings occurring mostly in the Highlands Region and NCD.
What about other similar cases of murder and manslaughter and or wilful murders occurring in Madang and other centres around the country?
This trend of senseless killings has been going on everywhere in the country long before any form of government was introduced.
It is with great regret to understand that many killings and murders are happening where there is no access to media therefore we only get stories from where there is media access.
As such, it is childish to blame any government for all the senseless barbaric acts done by people who lets say are primitive as our ancestors who lived by their bows and arrows, spears and their stone axes.
We have been an independent state for just four decades which is nothing compared to other countries.
Furthermore, every murder Yasi mentioned as well as other cases has got a motive behind.
They happened because people have needs and as humans, people are provoked by certain situations and circumstances.
Before we judge others, we have to take a closer look at how we conduct ourselves in the society we live in. Societies and communities are not all the same.
And different people react differently when faced with certain situations and circumstances.
The job of governments is to make sure our communities and societies are conducive to live in.
Therefore, the Government should think seriously about measures to curb all illegal activities so we live in a safe and secure environment.
Regarding the killing sprees going on nowadays, I think it’s time the Government should think seriously about introducing the Migration Act as well as implementing the death penalty.

  • A very good comment there. The migration act should be introduced and they should send all people who are just living and doing nothing in the city back to their home provinces.
