Unfair treatment

Letters

THE Government is very unfair with employees working in private institutions.
Prime Minister James Marape has announced publicly that in the midst of the state of emergency, all public servants will be on full pay.
This is total absurd and injustice to private sector employees.
The recent stimulus package of K5.6 billion did not capture the private sector.
At the end of the day, we are citizens of Papua New Guinea and we pay taxes to the Government.
Employees in the private sector are being laid off and working hours being reduced to half, directly impacting our lives when we have rent to pay, food to buy, bills to pay, loan repayment etc.
Is the Government blind or not being advised properly?
I hope the Government is fair to private sector.
We the employees of private institutions are being overlooked by the Government as such, we are getting less compared to what we normally earn in our fortnight.
Can the Government think of us in private sector?

  • Its simply shows that we (private) are not part of PNG, but we are the biggest text payers to the PNG government. I feel sorry when the government forgets us.

  • Some or most of this public servants are parasites to us working in private sector. This is selfish indeed. I’am one of the good tax payer who pays K673.23 in tax per fortnight. While these public servants resting out in fear of covid-19, private sector risking their life making rice, tinned fish and mine for them so that they relax and get paid with sufficient food ration in market/stores. This is a total disgrace.

  • Totally unfair! Companies will stimulate the local economy, most are up to date with taxes and superannuation because they comply with one laws.
What about you the government, it’s no secret behind in taxes, super, rentals etc….at least giving to businesses is a guarantee you collect taxes back and so forth.

  • Totally agree.
The government needs to re-look into this ASAP.
Private Sector is paying almost 50% of the Tax so why leave us out.
