THE United Nations Population Fund has donated 20 desktop computer sets to the National Statistics Office (NSO).
They were presented by UNFPA officer-in-charge Dr Gilbert Hiawalyer to deputy census director Boe Douna last Friday in Port Moresby.
“These computers will help you to enter data and start early analysis.
“And we hope to see the first preliminary report by the end of March,” Hiawalyer said.
He said a census was very important for a government in planning policies and the UNFPA supported the cause.
The computer sets were worth K70,000 and consist of monitors, uninterruptible power supply machines and computer processing units.
The UNFPA has so far helped the national census by providing map information software and global positioning equipment for accurate data processing and analysis.
These programmes can give information for an area by accurately locating and analysing population density.
They can show on the map other variables like age group, sex, education and availability of services such as hospitals and schools.
Douna said NSO was grateful for the help because it was timely for the 2011 census data processing.
He said about 98% of materials was ready.
with all data from provinces submitted except Eastern Highlands which has yet to submit its data.
