EASTERN Highlands students from Unggai-Bena studying at two universities in NCD have received K80,000 as school fee subsidies from a total allocation of K200,000 for this year.
Chairman of the Unggai-Bena joint district budget planning and priorities committee and local MP Benny Allan yesterday gave separate cheques to student representatives from the University of Papua New Guinea (UPNG) main campus and the school of medicine and health sciences at Taurama and the Pacific Adventist University (PAU).
Students at the UPNG main campus received K48,000 while those at the Taurama campus and PAU received K6,000 and K16,000 respectively.
Officers from the district were also dispatched to the University of Technology in Lae, Divine Word University in Madang and the Vudal university campuses in East New Britain and Northern to deliver cheques to Unggai-Bena students.
“The students had applied for assistance through a public notice that was put out and we have tried to help everyone as much as possible,” Allan, who is also Environment and Conservation Minister, said in Port Moresby yesterday.
