LITTLE known Buna belted neighbors Sauga Warriors 18- 4 in Popondetta Rugby League Nines competition’s round 17 on Sunday.

Buna proved critics wrong to blow away the competition leaders.

But the round 18 game was a complete opposite as they could not find a similar form and ended up getting crushed 14-4 by Hoppl Tigers.

In the other match Sorovi tamed Northern Motel M4M Bulldogs (1) 8-4 in the upset of the weekend to prevent them from claiming the top spot in the competition.

That honour still belongs to Warriors who lead on 25 points, just one clear of Tigers. Bulldogs (1) are on  23, Bulldogs (2) 21, Buna 21, Sangi Raiders 16, IEA Royals 13, Sorovi 6 and Medics 5 follow in that order.

In the other round 17 results Bulldogs (2) 8 beat Royals 0, Tigers 14 Medics 4, Raiders 4 Sauga Warriors 0.  In round 18 Bulldogs (1) 8 Bulldogs (2) 4,  Warriors 4 Medics 0, Tigers 6 Royals 6, Raiders 4 Sorovi 0.

Association president Anko Vamage said that washed-out matches will be played this weekend before the top four spots are finalised.

He said the executive committee will decide the cash prizes for the grand final during the week.
