UNIVERSITY returned with a big bang, defeating Mungkas 4-1 in Port Moresby women’s soccer at Bisini yesterday.
Inspired by the return of former PNG flanker Esther Kurabi, University put on a better performance.
Winger Pamela Norrie scored the opening goal before Kurabi extended the lead to 2-0 at half time.
In the second half, it was a sister-act with Pamela’s siblings Janie and Tokoi Norrie scoring goals.
Mungkas were listless for most of the match until Dorcas Sesevo pulled one back in the dying minutes 4-1.
In the other women’s match, PS Rutz forfeited to Spartans.
On Saturday, there were goal-less matches between Lamana and Yamaros and Mungkas and Guria.
In the men’s competition, former Eastern Star Andrew Marampau sparked off Mungkas to a 7-2 hiding of a depleted YMC on Saturday.
Marampau bagged a treble to help his team. The opening goal was scored by Popoli Doro in the 4th minute followed by Marampu’s trifecta in the 7th, 16th and 31st minutes before Lam Vincent added to the lead before YMC scored two quick goals through Julio Julian and Makhel Varina.
Flanker Benedict Sakari scored a double in the 65th and the 85th minutes.
In the other match, Spartans’ Ravu Habuka’s goal in the 23rd minute was not good enough as Cosmos Bagi pulled out a surprise goal in the 80th minute for a 1-1 draw.
On Sunday, striker Terence Bandi and Steve Mais celebrated a double each to beat YMC in their second Super League match over the weekend.
YMC opened their account through striker Tumuna Rotona in the 15th minute overwhlemed by PS Rutz’ 1-4.
