A gallant University beat Maclaren 4-2 in the Port Moresby Soccer Association preliminary final at Bisini Park on Saturday.
The win has enabled Uni to meet Mungkas in the grand final this weekend.
Maclaren face Genesis in the third place playoff.
Uni were far better than the opposition on the day shifting their attack under the scorching midday heat.
The scholars’ combinations and fluid midfield distribution enabled them to find the net first through Greg Togubai in the 13th minute to lead 1-0.
They were again rewarded with another goal from Giwi Simon minutes later to hit the front 2-0.
Maclaren found the going tough but had to get their acts together and seconds before half time, Toru Simoi pushed the ball past the opposition keeper Albert Mesulam to trail 2-1 at the interval.
The second stanza was dominated by Uni and Kila Tanoa struck the ball behind Maclaren’s confused keeper Rolly Latan to increase the lead to 3-1.
Uni increased its lead further when Togubai slotted a penalty goal after an infringement in the box.
An 88th minute goal to Maclaren’s Joel Tiampo reduced the final margin to 4-2.
Maclaren officials and supporters were disappointed with referee Jonathan Gray saying some of his decisions did not go down well with them.
They alleged that the referee was unfair to them but accepted the defeat in the end as good sportsmen.
