Uni campus gives second chance with matriculation courses

Education

THE Divine Word University’s St Benedict’s campus in Wewak, East Sepik, will offer matriculation studies beginning next year.
This was made possible through a memorandum of agreement signed between National Planning Minister and Yangoru-Saussia MP Richard Maru and St Benedict’s campus vice-president Dr Lawrence Arokiaraj.
The signing was held on June 17 at Yangoru station where a vehicle was also presented to Arokiaraj to help with the start of enrolment.
Yangoru-Saussia District Development Authority chief executive officer Fantson Yaninen said the MoA would ensure that students from the district had a chance to continue their education after grade 12.
Maru announced that enrolment for the matriculation studies would open in the district and the studies would run for six months.
Those who passed would make it directly into the St Benedicts Campus at Kaindi, Wewak.
“We want more students from the district in universities,” Maru said.
The DWU St Benedict’s Campus offers education, nursing, and business courses.
Funding has been released for dormitories to be built so that the university can increase enrolments next year.
