STAFF and students at the Mt Hagen University of Papua New Guinea open centre, Western Highlands, are mourning the death of one of their longest serving executive secretaries.
Susan Kewa, who served the centre for 21 years, died on Monday after a short illness.
She contributed greatly to helping students from Western Highlands, Chimbu, Enga and Southern Highlands.
Her service towards the centre helped boost the morale of staff to promote education in the province and the highlands region.
Kewa served the then centre from its formative years which developed to the UPNG open campus and expanded to sub-centres and to other provinces as well.
She served under different directors, the longest being with Hugo Kop, who is now in the Solomon Islands.
Through her hard work, she helped turn many failures into graduates.
Kewa’s death came as a shock to students, parents and guardians.
She will be buried in her Kendpai village on Saturday after a requiem service at the Kuli Catholic church in the Anglimp district of Western Highlands.
