Education

THE Southern Highlands provincial government has paid K93,600 to Divine Word University for the fees of 117 students from the province.
The amount does not cover SHP students studying in DWU campuses in Wewak and Rabaul.
The subsidy is part of the first K1.5 million released by Governor William Powi last week.
Each student receives K800 from the first instalment of K1.5 million.
Dr Simon Temo from the SHP government travelled to the Madang campus on Tuesday to pay the money.
He apologised to the students for the delay in the payment.
Temo also assured the students that the fee subsidy scheme would continue until all was paid.
DWU SHP Students’ Association president Solomon John thanked Powi for the fee subsidy.
John said education was the future of the province and country.
Master’s degree student Were Apurel Liwa challenged fellow students to return to the province after graduation and work there.
