Union plans to petition Government

THE Council of Public Sector Unions will petition the Government during next week’s parliament sitting to have the salary fixation agreement captured in the 2021 budget, union chairman Robert Kutapai says.
During a meeting yesterday, the council agreed to call on the Government to address the salary fixation agreement before Parliament rose to provide insurance cover for public servants and taxation on basic goods to be reduced to help workers in the country.
Kutapai said the Department of Personnel Management had delayed the union’s efforts to sign a revised agreement.
“The price of goods and services in the country is increasing,” he said.
“Government cannot not depend on the new General Order 11 to avoid increasing public servants salaries.”
He said they were responding to increased consumer price index over the past 12 months .
