ALBERT Schram’s employment contract as University of Technology vice-chancellor ended on Friday Feb 16, an official says.
Schram, pictured, who had held the position since 2014, was given seven days after that to vacate his home, said Registrar Veronica Thomas in a statement.
“Consistent with the decision of the Unitech Council, the administration has served on Dr Schram details of his repatriation arrangements, which includes airline tickets to the last place he was when recruited by Unitech,” she said.
“This does not in any way deprive his right to go to court and challenge the council decision if he wishes to do so.
“His contract of employment with Unitech was terminated and consequently, and as of the date of his termination, he is not entitled to any further benefits aside from his severance package.
“He was, however, given seven days to prepare for his repatriation.
“Unitech’s obligation to Dr Schram after the termination is his repatriation and that is the arrangement made and he was informed.
“Whether he decides to stay or go is his personal decision.
“After seven days, he can simply change his ticket, provide his own accommodation and stay on his own account.”
Schram recently uploaded a picture of his ticket on social media, with the flight booked for last Saturday, Feb 24, from Lae to Amsterdam.
In a statement last week, Schram indicated that he had instructed his lawyers to “prepare his case for review by the courts”.
It is understood that Schram is still in Lae.
